No. When you choose IDT Energy, your utility will continue to deliver the energy to your home or business, provide customer service, bill you and respond to service emergencies.

Your utility owns the lines and meters, and delivers the electricity and/or natural gas into your home. They are responsible for billing, maintaining those lines, meters and poles as well as responding to any power outages, emergencies, needed repairs and any other issues.

Your local utility is responsible for reading your meter and billing. If you have a questions about the amount of energy you used or you would like your meter read – please contact your local utility

New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Ohio, and Washington DC residents who live in an IDT Energy serviceable area have the right to shop for and choose their energy supplier. For more information please visit our utilities we service page.

You do not have to switch to an alternative energy supplier, but you may be missing out on many of the added benefits companies like IDT Energy provide.

Consider enrolling in a Budget Billing Plan. Some utilities will estimate your yearly energy costs and spread your payments evenly throughout the year. In other utility service areas, your energy supplier is responsible for doing so. Once enrolled in a Budget Billing plan, your monthly bill will still display your actual usage and the cost of your service for the billing period. The utility regularly compares your bills and payments, and if your Budget Billing amount is too high or too low, it will let you know and adjust the amount on your next bill. IDT Energy shops for these commodities on the wholesale market and supplies them to your local utility. The utility delivers energy over its network of pipes and wires to homes and small businesses.

About IDT Energy

IDT Energy is one of the largest independent suppliers of electricity and natural gas serving the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland , Illinois, Ohio and Washington DC markets. We are a Retail Energy Provider or “REP”.

Often known as a “REP” (Retail Energy Provider), “ESCO” (Energy Service Company), “EGS” (Electric Generation Supplier), “TPS” (Third Party Supplier) or “ARES” (Alternative Residential Electricity Supplier). These are companies like IDT Energy that compete for your energy supply business. They may be small companies or large corporations that are registered with state regulators and compete to sell you electricity and natural gas.

Your energy service is made up of two parts: supply and delivery. When you choose IDT Energy, we purchase the electricity and natural gas for your home or small business and supply it to your local utility. Your local utility company will continue to safely and reliably deliver that electricity and natural gas to your home over its network of pipes and wires.

IDT Energy offers a number of price plans:

  • SmartBudget – Fixed-rate plans where the price per unit of energy supplied will remain the same for a specified term.
  • SmartFlex – Flexible variable rate plans offering cash-back rebates based on how much electricity and/or natural gas we supply to the customer. Per unit electricity and/or natural gas rates are set by IDT Energy at its discretion based on a number of factors, as more fully described in the Terms & Conditions. Rates may be higher or lower than then your local utility and there is no guarantee of savings.
  • “Renewable/Green” Energy supply – We offer fixed rate and flexible variable rate electricity supply programs that are backed 100% by renewable energy credits representing the generation of electricity from renewable resources such as wind, sun and running water. Green options are more expensive than traditional programs, but you can help keep the air we breathe cleaner, minimize ecological impact, encourage conservation, reduce our dependency on foreign oil and help promote the creation of domestic jobs. “

IDT Energy Programs

Active IDT Energy customers in good standing can register their meter accounts and earn Rewards points on every kilowatt hour and therm of gas supplied by IDT Energy. You start earning as soon as you register your IDT Energy® electric and natural gas supply meters in the Rewards program and may begin redeeming those points after the third monthly IDT Energy billing cycle. The longer you remain an active customer, the more points you earn and the bigger your rewards can get.

IDT Energy has teamed with some of the best companies to offer you home warranty, electronics protection and home security systems. You can even safeguard your finances, credit score and identity. From personal electronics and cell phones, to home appliances and media room equipment, to whole-home warranty and critical systems protection, our customers can enjoy peace of mind with an array of preventive maintenance and home repair service options.

IDT Energy Rewards

Active IDT Energy customers in good standing can register and earn Rewards points on every kilowatt hour and therm of gas supplied by IDT Energy. You start earning as soon as you register your IDT Energy® electric and natural gas supply meters in the Rewards program and may begin redeeming those points after the third monthly IDT Energy billing cycle. The longer you remain an active customer, the more points you may earn and the bigger your rewards can get.

If you are a current, active IDT Energy customer, you must enroll your meter accounts [link] with IDT Energy Rewards. We’ll give you 1000 bonus points just for enrolling in the rewards program. Then, you will earn points each month for the electric and/or natural gas we supply to your home based on the energy we supply. PLUS, earn 500 bonus point rewards after your account has been active for 6 months and every 6 month period thereafter.

Once you enroll and are accepted into the program, you will receive 1 point for every kilowatt hour supplied by IDT Energy each month.  You will receive 6 points For every Therm/CCF of natural gas supplied by IDT Energy each month.

If you have cancelled your IDT Energy account, your rewards account will automatically be locked. In order to re-activate your account and redeem your unused rewards, you need to reactivate your account. If you are still an active customer and your account is still locked, please contact us.

Enrolling with IDT Energy

New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, Ohio and Washington DC residents who live in an IDT Energy serviceable area have the right to shop for and choose their energy supplier.

You can enroll online by completing our enrollment process here. You can also enroll by calling an IDT Energy sales rep at 877-887-6866. You will need to have your utility bill ready, because we will ask for your utility account number in order to enroll you in the program.

Once you enroll, you will receive a Welcome Letter from IDT Energy that includes all of the Terms and Conditions of the service. Your utility company also will send you a letter notifying you of your expected start date for IDT Energy® service. There’s nothing else you need to do.

The answer to this question depends on what state and utility territory you reside in. In some locations your service with IDT Energy will begin as soon as 3 days after your enrollment. In other locations it may take as long 60 days. Once your IDT Energy service begins, your monthly bill from the utility will indicate that you have chosen IDT Energy as your supplier of electricity and/or natural gas.

If, for any reason, you are not happy with your choice of supplier of natural gas and electricity, you can switch to another supplier, or back to your utility upon written or verbal notification. However, be aware that some of our products have early termination fees. Please check your Terms & Conditions for details.

No. There are no sign up fees. Nor are any deposits required to initiate service.

Yes! No matter who supplies your energy, you will receive the same level of customer service from your utility. Your utility will continue to read your meter, bill you for service and deliver your electricity and natural gas safely and reliably. You will continue to make payments to your utility as well and it will respond to service emergencies when you call their emergency hotline.

Your utility will continue to bill you for service. IDT Energy will be listed on your bill as your new energy supplier.

How to cancel IDT Energy?

It depends on the product. Variable rate products do not have early termination fees but some of our fixed-rate products do have early termination fees. Please check your Terms & Conditions for details.

Yes, if you cancel, you will no longer be able to redeem or earn point with the IDT Energy Rewards program.

If you are no longer happy with your service, you may request to cancel by contacting our customer service at 877-887-6866 or by filling out our contact us form, including your account number, and indicate your request to cancel. Please note, you will no longer be eligible to receive IDT Energy added value benefits like Rewards and rebates if you choose to cancel IDT Energy.

IDT Energy would like the opportunity to work with our customers in regards to any complaints they may have. Please contact our customer service department. Because supply and delivery services will continue to be regulated by the Public Service Commission in New York (PSC), the Board of Public Utilities in New Jersey (BPU), the Public Utilities Commission in Pennsylvania (PUC), the Public Utilities Commission for Ohio (PUCO), the Public Service Commission in Maryland (PSC), Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) and the Washington DC Public Service Commission, you may contact your state regulator regarding any concerns you may have.
